West Hills United Methodology

In this section we will describe how West Hills United trains players that are interested in soccer; we understand that they should develop skills according to their evolutionary stages that they are going through, and that the content should be different according to these stages. Our club pays special attention to other aspects apart from just the competitive one, such as respect, teamwork, integrity, kindness, honesty, and others that will make our players valued members of our society.

We must understand that the competitive factor plays a fundamental role in the development of the player, but it must be introduced at the right age and work to prioritize other aspects in the initiation stages.

Typically, the initiation for kids in sports is carried out with pre-structured models, which only truly serves competitive models (such as futsal, football 7 or football 11) and where objectives are established that players must achieve. In this system, the result is prioritized over the process, and it is the player who must adapt to the system, without the system being the one that adapts to the player. In this way, the player who does not meet the conditions is discarded for not meeting the objectives set and for not having talent.

There is also a trend in grassroots football, where the least-experienced coaches are placed with the youngest age categories and the most-experienced with those of the higher age category. If we apply a more well-rounded logic, we would see that those coaches who are qualified with better preparation could carry out more fundamental work; our youngest players are those who should receive a greater motor, coordinative, and socio-affective base, since they are in the ages of greater learning capacity. That is why we always aim to pair trained and certified coaches at our youngest levels, so the soccer fundamentals are taught in the right way.

In our Methodology we will detail how we train, how we teach, how we play, how we administer the resources that we have with the player development as the center of the project, evolve models to make them according to the current reality, and optimize process to make our work as effective as possible.
