Our Club’s History: A Strong Foundation in Community Clubs
West Hills United Soccer Club (WHU) was founded in 2013 with the aim of providing more competitive soccer for older age groups (U10 to U18) in the west part of Calgary. The partnership with community clubs (such as Signal Hill Soccer and Triwest Soccer clubs – and hopefully other to follow) would allow the community clubs to develop the fundamental skills for younger soccer players (U4 – U10) using their “house league” programs.
This has allowed WHU to develop a larger base and more teams to participate in the Calgary Minor Soccer Association leagues (U10 CMSA and U12 to U18 teams). The community clubs and WHU operate on a non-compete basis in a given age group and WHU encourages more U10 South West League (recreational) teams at the local level than U10 CMSA teams within the club.
Our Organizational Principles: How We Want to Grow, and Why
We want to be seen as a well-organized and affordable program, where all players/members have a positive experience, build skills and are treated respectfully and fairly.
We will support the community clubs (U10 SWL and younger) that are our foundation for attracting and developing players.
We will develop strong competitive and recreational programs that support each other and our club’s reputation in the city.
We want to be a big enough club that we can provide training and teams for all skill levels – including competitive and recreational.
We’re about developing people and role models in our sport. We want our coaches, officials and volunteers to be well trained, feel well supported, and have an opportunity to contribute and to learn in an accepting, respectful and open environment.
